Origin: Europe, Asia and North Africa
Habitat: Mountainous and rocky areas, woodland edges, forests and steppes. Occasionally found in farmland and urbanised areas as well.
Diet: They predominantly eat small mammals, such as rodents and lagomorphs but will also hunt larger mammals up to the size of small deer, birds (including woodpeckers, herons and other birds of prey), amphibians, reptiles, fish and insects.

The Eurasian Eagle is considered to be the heaviest owl species in the world, with the heaviest individual recorded at 4.6 kg (10 lb)! This large species of eagle owl is found across the majority of the Northern Hemisphere (except the Americas) and are formidable, apex predators.
Did you Know? Eurasian eagle owls have the most varied diet out of any owl species; over 600 different species of animal have been identified as prey of Eurasian eagle owls! While the majority of their diet consists of small mammals, such as rodents and rabbits, EEOs have been recorded some pretty unusual prey! Pine martens, young deer, juvenile wild boar, African civets and heron are just some examples.
