Knockhatch Adventure Park unveiled its stunning new ring-tailed lemur enclosure, officially opened by the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex. The event marked a significant milestone for the park, showcasing its commitment to wildlife conservation and further expanding its open-air enclosures in the Jungle Kingdom Zoo. The ribbon cutting took place under a unique lemur-inspired black and white balloon arch provided by Sweethearts Party Boutique in Hailsham.
State-of-the-Art Enclosure for Beloved Lemurs
The state-of-the-art enclosure offers a stimulating environment for the park's beloved ring-tailed lemur family. The troop recently gave birth to extremely rare twin lemurs. Guests can now enjoy a closer look at these fascinating primates as they swing across the ropes and sunbathe on the roof of their Cessna airplane within their open-air enclosure.
Specialist Walkways and Partnerships
The walkways in the Lemur Enclosure are made from our specialist weave, "Fast Rope," used by British Special Forces to exit helicopters, said Emma Donovan, Marketing Manger, of Marlow Ropes. "We are thrilled to work in partnership with another Sussex business and help this endangered species thrive."
Knockhatch also invited Mortain Place, Eastbourne, to have their own lemur experience and test the accessibility of the new enclosure. Resident Bernard Ransom, 59 retired shop keeper, said "We have done a lot with Knockhatch and felt very privileged to be invited to the opening of the new lemur enclosure." Doreen Ramscar, 89, added, "The lemurs love sweet potato; he sat on my lap and ate loads – so friendly!"
Educational Opportunities and Conservation Efforts
Ben Anderson, Zoo Manager, said, "The ring-tailed lemurs will provide us with a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to educating our visitors about the plight of the Madagascan ecosystem, as well as ensuring ring-tailed lemur numbers increase. Since their arrival, five infants have been born at Knockhatch."
