New Lemur Enclosure

April 2024

Knockhatch Adventure Park begins construction on a new lemur enclosure.

+ Local partnership with Pump House Designs and Marlow Ropes.

+ Open air design will allow 'nose to nose' experiences.

+ Continuing investment into the family adventure park.

The team at Knockhatch Adventure Park, Hailsham, have started construction on a new enclosure in the Jungle Kingdom Zoo. The new area has a budget of £100,000 and will provide an open air enclosure for the growing family of ring tailed lemurs.

Battle based architects, Pump House Designs took the in-house plans for the lemur enclosure and created the computer generated images. Inspired by this, Marlow Ropes reached out with a donation of rope for lemurs to traverse in their new home.

Emma Donovan said “We’re delighted to be able to lend support to our nearby neighbours Knockhatch in the supply of ropes for their animal enclosures and queue lines. Working with businesses and charities in the local community is very important to us all here at Marlow Ropes with our own rope-making Hailsham heritage going back over 200 years. Our ropes are used in space and power elite sailing race teams all around the world, and now we’re pleased to see local businesses benefitting too.”

The enclosure will be open air with a huge glass walls allowing visitors to get 'nose to nose' with the friendly primates. The lemur sanctuary will have a off view section allowing the lemurs to rest. The troop have already raised infants in the existing enclosure and the team expect this to continue.

The iconic black and white stripes of the ring-tailed lemur might fade from our world forever if we don't act now. Human activity is shrinking their rainforest homes, putting these playful creatures on the path to extinction. Knockhatch Adventure Park hopes that the information boards across the park will inspire its visitors to care about conservation.
